Introduction: India-based Moser Baer, world’s second-largest optical storage media (Compact Discs (CDs), Digital Versatile Discs (DVDs), etc.) manufacturer, started its business 25 years ago in 1983 as a manufacturer of time recording machines. It later forayed into the magnetic media business in 1987 by selling computer floppies. The company also had a first-mover advantage in launching products well ahead of the other players like Cisco Systems, Inc., IBM India Limited and Wipro Limited. Over the years, the company expanded into next generation storage formats like Blu-ray Discs and High-Definition/Density DVD (HD DVD) and emerged as the first company in the world to ship HD DVDs. In 2005, to sustain its business and to compete with other players, the company that started as a single business transformed into amulti-technology organisation. In the process, it forayed into solar energy (Photovoltaic (PV) optics), Home Entertainment and IT peripherals & consumer electronics.
